{"id":2497,"date":"2026-08-12T14:42:06","date_gmt":"2026-08-12T14:42:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/topmovingpross.com\/?p=2497"},"modified":"2026-08-12T14:42:06","modified_gmt":"2026-08-12T14:42:06","slug":"rescuers-evacuate-more-than-200-from-a-ferry-fire-that-left-at-least-1-dead-near-bali","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/topmovingpross.com\/?p=2497","title":{"rendered":"Rescuers evacuate more than 200 from a ferry fire that left at least 1 dead near Bali"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>JAKARTA, Indonesia (AP) \u2014 Crews rescued 211 people and recovered the body of a passenger from a ferry that caught fire in rough seas Wednesday near the Indonesian tourist island of <span>Bali<\/span>, authorities said.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/topmovingpross.com\/?p=2495\">Death toll rises to 44 after an overloaded ferry capsized on a Zimbabwe lake<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Putri Yasmin ferry was traveling from Bali to the neighboring island of Lombok in West Nusa Tenggara province, when the fire broke out at about 4:15 a.m. The ferry was also transporting 44 vehicles and 53 motorcycles.<\/p>\n<p>The Search and Rescue Office in Mataram, the capital of West Nusa Tenggara province, received an emergency report almost half an hour later and immediately deployed personnel and rescue vessels.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur top priority is the safety of all passengers and crew members,\u201d said Muhammad Hariyadi, who heads the Mataram Search and Rescue Office.<\/p>\n<p>Videos released by the National Search and Rescue Agency showed people wearing life jackets crowding an inflatable life raft in choppy waters during a rescue operation at sea, as thick black smoke billows from the ferry.<\/p>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" aria-label=\"Locator map\" height=\"498\" id=\"ap-chart-ucxM0\" scrolling=\"no\" src=\"https:\/\/interactives.ap.org\/embeds\/ucxM0\/2\/\" style=\"border:none\" title=\"Indonesian ferry catches fire\" width=\"100%\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The rescue agency said that as of Wednesday afternoon, rescuers evacuated 211 people from the burned vessel, including 2 Australian tourists, and recovered the body of a 19-year-old Indonesian woman.<\/p>\n<p>Initial reports had said the ferry was carrying 131 people, including 17 crew members, based on the ship\u2019s manifest.<\/p>\n<p>However, hours after the incident, officials said more people were aboard than listed. He said at least two injured passengers were rushed to a nearby hospital.<\/p>\n<p>Syamsurizal, who like many Indonesians uses a single name, said investigators were determining the cause of the fire. He said that survivors told authorities the blaze appeared to have started in a cargo truck before quickly spreading through the ferry.<\/p>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Hariyadi said the rescue effort was supported by six vessels, a helicopter, two inflatable boats and two private yachts.
